Welcome to Rosedale School

Rosedale School provides an educational service for pupils aged four to eighteen years with severe and profound learning needs in Galway City and surrounding areas.

Rosedale is currently comprised of thirteen classes, three of which are pre-school classes. Two preschool classes are located in Fairlands on our Woodlands campus which provide an educational service to pupils who have a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder in addition to significant learning disabilities. Pupils aged three to four years are enrolled in the Fairlands classes. The third preschool class is located in Burrenview, Knocknacarra which provides an educational service to children with severe and profound learning needs and complex medical needs from 4 to 5 years of age.

A partnership model operates in the school, between the Department of Education and Skills and the Brothers of Charity Services since 1998.

The Principal, Team Manager and School Board of Management are responsible for the management of the school and are committed to providing a broad, balanced and relevant curriculum to meet pupil needs. Each pupil has an ‘Individual Education Plan’ formulated in consultation with families and staff based on their present abilities and learning objectives.

The primary curriculum and Junior Cycle Level One learning programmes are adhered to in the school.

We are a vibrant part of the local community and we strive to bring the community into Rosedale. We have enjoyed visits from the local firestation, Baboró, Drumadore, ATU choir and the ice cream van. We also have a range of annual celebrations which reflect the diverse cultural student body in Rosedale.

Rosedale school is a sanctuary and a space where each pupil is seen, valued and supported to reach their full potential. The pupil is at the centre of their own learning journey. The staff in Rosedale nurture encourage and celebrate the uniqueness of each child. Each pupil’s abilities and challenges are met with understanding and tailored support. The school recognises that success looks different for everyone and every achievement big or small is celebrated wholeheartedly. Rosedale is a school where pupils feel safe, heard and respected.

Students, parents, and all staff, together with the Board of Management and the Brothers of Charity Services work in partnership.

Each individual student is valued, encouraged and respected for his/her uniqueness and facilitated to reach his/her potential physically, socially, emotionally, spiritually, and academically.

We strive to enable each student to progress towards reaching his/her fullness in adult life and in society.

EU Funding

This school received a grant in 2021 to implement initiatives aimed at addressing the digital divide and support our learners at risk of educational disadvantage as a consequence, as part of the Irish National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) a project under the Recovery and Resilience Facility funded by the European Union through NextGenerationEU. This funding was used to purchase interactive touch screens and laptops to enhance the learning experiences of our pupils in school.
